Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday, bidding adieu via a video posted on his official Instagram account.
Celebrities and fans alike took to social media to congratulate the wicket-keeper batsman on a stellar career and his achievements as the captain of the Indian cricket team.
“Thanks,” Dhoni wrote on the video he posted. “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”
His wife Sakshi reacted to the video with emojis of a heart and folded hands.
In a separate post, Sakshi posted a photo of the India’s World Cup-winning captain, adding that she is proud of his accomplishments and wished him health and happiness.
“You should be proud of what you have achieved. Congratulations on giving your best to the game. I am proud of your accomplishments and the person you are! I am sure you must have held those tears to say goodbye to your passion. Wishing you health, happiness and wonderful things ahead!” Sakshi wrote.
She also added a quote by Maya Angelou at the end of the post.

Dhoni has played 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is for India, amassing 10,773 and 1,617 runs in the respective formats.
He became the fifth Indian and 12th overall in ODI history to score 10,000 runs. He has 10 ODI centuries and 73 fifties to his name.
Dhoni represented India in 90 Tests, scoring 4,876 runs before retiring from Test cricket in 2014.
Under Dhoni’s leadership, India lifted the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. He also led India to the 2013 Champions Trophy title.
