Moulvibazar Zila Parishad chairman Azizur Rahman died of COVID-19 on early Tuesday at a hospital in the capital. He was 77.
Moulvibazar deputy commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan said Freedom fighter Azizur died of COVID-19 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at about 2:30am,.
He said that the district admiration took necessary measures to pay respect to Azizur as a freedom fighter.
Azizur was airlifted to Dhaka from Moulvibazar on August 5 at the instruction of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He was elected as a lawmaker on Awami League ticket in 1986 and 1991 general elections.
He was an opposition whip in 1991 parliament.
He was also a former general secretary of Moulvibazar district Awami League.
