Nearly 200 shanties gutted in fire in city’s Maniknagar area

About 200 shanties were gutted in the fire that broke out at Maniknagar in the capital this afternoon.

The fire began around 3:20pm at a tin-shed house at Cumilla Patti area. Seven firefighting units brought the fire under control around 4:45pm, according to Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Local people, however, claimed that the fire originated from an earth oven.

The cause of the fire incident is under investigation.
